Created in 1962 by the French Union of Film Critics as a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, La Semaine de la Critique focuses on discovering new talent, revealing the first and second feature films. La Semaine de la Critique materializes each year its role as a talent scout in a selection of 10 short films and 10 feature films presented during the Cannes Film Festival. The film selection committees, made up of critics members of the French Union of Film Critics, therefore reveal the unique universes of emerging talent.
La Semaine de la Critique also conducts on-screen education activities throughout the year, especially for younger audiences, high school and high school students from the Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Île-de-France regions, but also from Germany.
The Gan Foundation for Cinema, a loyal partner of La Semaine de la Critique, confirms its desire to support young filmmakers and continues to vehemently support the first and second feature films by awarding the Gan Distribution for Distribution Award. The distributor of one of the five feature films "Semaine de la Critique 2020" will receive the prize and its prize of € 20,000.
Next Step Award, given to one of the filmmakers who has developed his latest feature film project since last December, during the sixth session.
Catalan Films & TV organizes a series of Catalan productions at the festival.
