Moscow’s class A festival drew its 33rd celebration to a close on 2 July, bestowing the highest honours on Alberto Morais’ Las olas / The Waves (Promarfi Futuro, Olivo Films and REC). The production walked off with the Golden George for Best Feature Film as well as the Silver George for Best Actor, which went to Carlos Álvarez-Nova. This drama about the search for memory also features the participation of Catalan actress Laia Marull.
The success of Las Olas / The Waves simply added to the excellent audience reception of three other Catalan films that formed part of the out-of-competition Made in Spain section: Pa negre / Black Bread, by Agustí Villaronga (Massa d’Or Producciones, in association with Televisió de Catalunya); Mil cretins / A Thousand Fools, by Ventura Pons (Els films de la Rambla); and Pase lo que pase / Whatever Happens, by Robert Bellsola (Aiguaviva Films). This last title has also been selected to take part in the official competition at both the New York City International Film Festival and the Detroit Windsor International Film Festival.
