The 68th Venice International Film Festival, celebrated from August 31st to September 10th, will unveil the world premier of Eva, the debut work of Kike Maíllo, and the first international production of Escándalo Films.
The premier will be preceded by three other titles with contributing Catalan influence: In the official competition, there is Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski, with participation by producer Mediapro. In the parallel Orizzonti section there will be two initiatives by Eddie Saeta: the Brazilian co-produced film Girimunho, directed by Clarissa Campolina and Helvecio Marins, and the documentary Hollywood Talkies, directed by Óscar Pérez and María del Mar Ribot.
Eva is a story of fantasy cinema, of love, and of death. The film, told in a futuristic style, explores the special relationship established between Álex, a reputable cyber engineer who is building a robot child, and his niece Eva, who he has barely seen in recent years.
Eva is the second-to-last project scheduled in the programming of Ópera Prima, which was created in 2006 by Catalan production company Escándalo Films with the goal of encouraging and facilitating the incorporation of young talent into the film and audiovisual industry.
Under this umbrella prominent titles such as Lo mejor de mí/The best of me by Roser Aguilar (Critics Award and the Award for Best Actress at the Locarno Film Festival), and Tres días con la familia/Three days with the family by Mar Coll (Goya Award for Best New Director 2009), have emerged. Marçal Forés' Animals is currently in the post production stage.
