The Catalan industry at Festival de Cannes

Catalan Films&TV will have its own pavilion at Marché du Film

Marché du Film will be held in parallel to Festival de Cannes (17th to 28th of May) and will gather film industry professionals from all around the globe. For the second year in a row, Catalan Films & TV will have its own pavilion at Marché du Film, placed at International Village - Pantiero Side n215, where all Catalan companies will be welcomed.

Short film The Disinherited, by Laura Ferrés (Inicia Films) has been selected for Semaine de la Critique.The film is a portrait of the director's father facing the end of his family business. Pere Ferrés is 53 years old and owns a bus company. Lack of money forces him to drive clients who destroy his vehicle to bachelor parties, but he is not prepared to lose his dignity.

What's more, El sol del membrillo, by Victor Erice, restored by Filmoteca de Catalunya, will be screening at  Cannes classic, a selection that displays the work of valorisation of heritage cinema carried out by the production companies, the right-holders, the cinematheques or the national archives around the world.

This year, more than 80 Catalan companies will be attending the Marché du Film. And 8 films will be screend for international buyers within the framework of the market: A Fantastic Woman by Sebastián Leilo (Setembro Cine, Fabula, Komplizen Film, Muchas gracias, Participant Media), Black Hollow Cage by Sadrac González-Perellón (Assallam), Brava by Roser Aguilar (Setmàgic Audiovisual, Televisió de Catalunya, Iberrota Films, TV On Producciones), Nobody's watching by Julia Solomonof (Miss Wasabi Films,Aleph Motion Pictures,Cepa Audiovisual,Epicentre Films,La Panda,MadLove Film Factory, Perdomo Productions,Taiga Films,Travesia Producciones),  Pàtria -The legend of Otger de Cataló and the 9 barons of fame by Joan Frank Charansonnet (Dejavu Films), Summer 1993 by Carla Simón (Inicia Films, Avalon), Uncertain Glory by Agustí Villaronga (Massa d'Or Produccions, Televisió de Catalunya, Urresti Producciones), You only live once by Federico Cuevas ( A Contracorriente Film, Bowfinger International Pictures, MyS Produccion, Quexito Films, Telefe).

Moreover, the Shortcat 2017 will be shown at the Short Film Corner,  a meeting place for professionals from all over the world.
For its part, the section Goes to Cannes, a selection of works-in-progress, will showcase two catalan projects: animation feature film  Memoirs of a Man in Pajamas by Carlos Fernández (Dream Team Concept, Lady Big Films, TVE)  will be shown at  Annecy Goes to Cannes and fiction feature film Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem by David Muñoz and Adrián Cardona at Frontieres goes to Cannes

Finally, SITGES – Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya will celebrate its 50th anniversary at Catalan Films & TV pavillion on May 22nd.
