Sundance Film Festival

With the start of the year come the first announcements of confirmed selections at the most important festivals. A few months ago, Sundance announced the participation of Red Lights, directed by Rodrigo Cortés (Nostromo Pictures), in its out-of-competition section. And just a few days ago, two Catalan shorts were added to the festival's official line-up: El somriure amagat / The Hidden Smile, by Ventura Durall (Nanouk Films), and Odysseus' Gambit by Àlex Lora (Inicia Films), both of which will be taking part in the competition.

This good news from Sundance simply adds to the first press release of the Berlin International Film Festival, which has selected the latest film by director and producer Antonio Chavarrías, Dictado / Childish Games (Oberon Cinematogràfica), for the official competition.

Berlin has also announced the participation of Claudia Llosa's Loxoro, (Vela Producciones and Paradise Falls) in the short film competition. Llosa is now a veteran at this festival, having won the Golden Bear for her La teta asustada / The Milk of Sorrow in 2009.

The Berlinale, together with its parallel market, the EFM, is the first major date of the year for the international audiovisual industry. The festival's programming is still open, and it is likely that the line-up will include yet another Catalan production or two.
