Festivals

In accordance with the measures faced with the health emergency, the Festival will take place online from 17 to 24 April.

During its 52nd edition, Visions du Réel will be held predominantly in a virtual format. Its official selection emphasises its pioneering role when it comes to exploring the spectrum of documentary filmmaking practices. Three Catalan films wil be included in it's line up.

Future Foods, by Gerard Ortín (Gerard Ortín Castellví i angels barcelona) will compete in the International Medium Length & Short Film Competition section. The film is part of the Shortcat 2021 and will make its world premiere at the International Medium Lenght and Short Film competition. Future Foods revolves around the making of plastic food at the workshops of Replica LTD, one of the few UK based companies that still manufactures props for films, advertisements and displays. The perception of food, its appealingness and palatability through a constructed image, come into play when observing these hand-crafted manufacturing processes through a camera. A phone conversation with the CEO of a Finnish future foods' start-up introduces us to a cutting-edge technology consisting of the production of a new protein generated from water, electricity, and CO₂ captured from the air. Solein is a new technology that speculates with a near-future without agriculture and land-use effects.

For its part, Stillness Syndrome, by León Siminiani (GusanoFilms, Rara Colectivo, El Apartamento Films, El Gesto cinematográfica) will also be premiered at the International Medium Lenght and Short Film competition. The film is placed in 2018, when a group of filmmakers calling themselves "The Stillness", embark on a film essay about a hypothetical stillness syndrome in the Republic of Colombia.

Finally,  Pedra patria, Macià Florit's first feature film (Elsabeth Producciones, La Periférica Producciones), selected at DocLisboa film festival, forms part of the Doc Alliance selection. A journey from the darkest of the rocks to the lightest will guide the narrator on his impossible journey back to his native land, Menorca: an island that is sinking, inhabited by his younger brother, who has decided to remain there.
