Notorious presence of the Catalan production in Hot Docs' festival

The Canadian documentary festival, Hot Docs Festival, one of the most important festivals and markets of the documentary sector, has announced its program which includes 3 Catalan productions. 

Magaluf Ghost Town's feature film by Miguel Ángel Blanca (Boogaloo Films, Little Big Story, Mosaic Produccions) will premiere worldwide and it will also compete in the official selection International Spectrum. The project has had a long journey in some industry pitching forums like Lau Haizetara, Sheffield Doc Meet Market, DocsBarcelona, MiradasDoc, EDN Docs in Thessaloniki or Abycine Lanza. The film explains the low cost tourism impact in Magaluf (Mallorca) where a million people arrive every summer and invade the public space and they also transform it into a theme park where everything is permitted. In the balear Twin Peaks', the residents live in a absurd daily tension between a detestable ambient and a delightful holidays. Magaluf becomes a very specific manifestation of the paradigm and the low cost European tourism life.

After its worldwide premiere in SXSW, the film directed by Alba Sotorra The Return, Life After ISIS (Alba Sotorra, Televisió de Catalunya - CCMA, Sky) will be presented in Special presentations' section. The documentary tells the story of Shamima Begum (United Kingdom) and Hoda Muthana (USA), two women who where the main characters on the headlines of the international media because when they were teenagers, they left their native countries to join ISIS. Now, after the ISIS fall, they are captured in detention camps in the north of Siria with another million women and kids. Their stories about their fight to return to the west and the public debate that has been generated interesect with the horrifying and emotional stories that they lived under the ISIS command. A current story which opens a debate in the west from an exclusive, intimate and unprecedentive perspective: the story of west women ex-militants of ISIS.

Finally, there is The Other Side by Ivan Guarnido (GusanoFilms, Salon Indien Films) which will also premiere worldwide in the festival. The film will compete in Made in Colombia section.
