The San Sebastian Film Festival will take place between the 17th and 25th of September. The festival will be held on site, but the Industry space will undertake a hybrid format, becoming both an online and an on site activity. A total of 12 Catalan productions have been included in the festival’s line up.

El buen patrón/The Good Boss, by Fernando León de Aranoa (The Mediapro Studio, Reposado Producciones Cinematográficas) will compete in the festival’s Official Selection. With Javier Bardem in the lead role, The Good Boss becomes a satire about personal and professional relationships. It will have its world premiere in San Sebastian.

Daniel Monzón’s latest feature film, Las leyes de la frontera/Outlaws (Ikiru Films, Atresmedia Cine, La Terraza Films, Las Leyes de la Frontera AIE) will close the Official Selection out of competition. The movie is an adaptation of the homonymous novel by Javier Cercas. The feature film is set in the summer of 1978. Nacho Cañas, a withdrawn 17-year-old student and somewhat of a misfit, is living in Girona. When he meets two young outlaws from the city’s red light district, Zarco and Tere, he soon finds himself caught up in a love triangle that inevitably spirals into a life of petty crime that will alter his life forever.

A strong Catalan presence is shown in the Perlak Section, a selection of the year’s best feature films, unreleased in Spain, which have received critical acclaim and/or awards at other international festivals. Competencia oficial/Official Competition, from Argentinian directors Gastón Duprat y Mariano Cohn, is a tragicomedy led by Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez, and produced by The Mediapro Studio. The movie will open the Perlak Section and. In search of transcendence and social prestige, a multimillionaire businessman decides to make a film to leaves a mark. For this, he hires the best: a stellar team consisting of famed filmmaker Lola Cuevas (Penelope Cruz) and two well-known actors, both of whom are huge talents, but with even bigger egos: Hollywood actor Felix Rivero (Antonio Banderas) and the radical theater actor Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez). Both legends, but not exactly best friends. Through a series of increasingly eccentric tests designed by Lola, Felix and Ivan must face not only each other, but also with their own legacies.

The competitive section called Nest, dedicated to shorts made by cinema students from around the world, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has selected Podul de Piatrâ/Pont de pedraby Artur-Pol Camprubí. This is a 15L production, with the collaboration of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola.
