The San Sebastián Festival - Donostia Zinemaldia was born in 1953 and was conceived as an International Film Week. Since 1955 he has been awarded his famous prize: the gold shell and the silver shell. Roberto Fellini, Audrey Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock and Luis Buñuel, among others, have passed through their seats.
Official Section: The Official Section is the highest category in festival competition. High-budget films take part in the competition, provided they have not been presented at other festivals.
New directors: First or second unpublished works by their directors.
Pearls: Selection of some of the best films previously presented at other international festivals.
Zabaltegi - Tabakalera: is a free space, open to all kinds of styles, durations and themes.
Latin Horizons: Unpublished films in Spain shot by a Latin director or inspired by Latin communities and funded in whole or in part in Latin America.
Made in Spain: Exhibition of the best cinema produced in Spain during the year.
Zinemira: Created in 2009, this section presents a sample of films produced in the Basque Country, shot in both Spanish and Basque.

Velodrome: This is the broadcast of films for a popular audience, mainly children, at the Velodrome of the Anoeta sports complex.
Catalan Films & TV organizes a series of Catalan productions at the festival.
