The San Sebastián International Film Fetsival will be held from September 18th to 26th and will combine onsite and online formats in its industry activities. The festival includes 9 Catalan films in its line-up.
Woody Allen's new film Rifkin’s Festival
will open the 68th edition of the festival. Starring Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, Gina Gershon, Sergi López, Wallace Shawn, Christoph Waltz, the film is produced by t
he Mediapro Studio, Gravier Productions and Wildsid.
What's more, the short film directed by Carla Simon and Dominga Sotomayor, Correspondence/Correspondència, an exchange of audiovisual letters between the filmmakers, will participate in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, a competitive section for films daring to try new angles and formats. The film was pemiered at Visions du Réel film fetsival. For its part, the short film directed by Jaume Claret, Ella i jo has been selected at the Nest section that gathers students from film schools all over the worlds.
In the Made in Spain section will be screening 4 Catalan films, a sample of Spanish cinema of the year: La boda de Ros/Rosa'a Wedding, by Iciar Bollain (Setembro Cine, Turanga Films, La Boda de Rosa La Película AIE, Tandem Films,Halley Production), premiered at Festival de Málaga, Las niña/Schoolgirls, by Pilar Palomero winner of the Golden Biznaga Award at Malaga Film Festival, My Mexican Bretzel, by Núria Giménez (Bretzel&Tequila) and La Mami, by Laura Herrero (Gadea Films, Cacerola Films).
Sentimental/The People Upstairs (Imposible Films, Sentimentalfilm AIE) will be screened as a world premiere at the RTVE Gala in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre. Comedy starring Javier Cámara, Belén Cuesta, Griselda Siciliani and Alberto San Juan, is based on the play by Cesc Gay himself. Furthermore, Warner España and the San Sebastian Festival will offer a charity screening of the feature film El verano que vivimos by Carlos Sedes (4 Cats Pictures, Warner Bros Pictures International España, Atresmedia Cine, Mr Fields & Friends, Bambú Producciones, Aquel Verano Movie AIE, La Claqueta),
Within the framework of the industry activities, the second edition of the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, the competition for entrepreneurial teams and recently created startups proposing business projects based on the incorporation of new technologies in the audiovisual field, has selected Cinesmart, a Catalan platform based on advergaming and aimed at cinema exhibitors which uses big data.
What's more,4 Catalan projectes have been selected to participate in the Lau Haizetara Documentary Co-production Forum:
