The Venice Biennale, which was held 2-12 September, boasted heavy Catalan participation in its official festival sections. As we announced several weeks ago, Lluís Galter's Caracremada (produced by Associació Passos Llargs, Cromosoma and Mallerich Films-Paco Poch) and Guest, by José Luís Guerín (produced by Roxbury Pictures and Versus Entertainment) took part in the Orizzonti section. What's more, the Official out-of-competition section featured Andrucha Waddington's film Lope (produced by Ikiru Films, Antena 3 Films, Conspiraçao Filmes and El Toro Pictures), which premiered in Catalonia the first weekend of September. On the North American continent, Catalan participation at the Toronto International Film Festival has increased this year, with a number of coproductions. And once again, both Lope and Guest will be at the Festival, taking part in the Special Presentations and Real to Reel sections, respectively. Also participating are Buried, Lope, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Julia's Eyes and The Way, in the Special Presentations section. As to the Masters section, Eddie Saeta will be taking part with the films Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and The Strange Case of Angelica. And finally, Chico and Rita, the coproduction by Fernando Trueba and Estudi Mariscal, will be celebrating its world premiere in the Contemporary World Cinema section.
