The industry in...
As the final schedules for the most prestigious film festivals are announced, the Catalan film industry is beginning to see how its productions are attaining an increasingly more important and noteworthy presence internationally. The most recent proof of this resided in the nomination of five films at the Cannes Festival. And now, two Catalan films will be featured at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (29 June - 7 July).
Bolboreta, mariposa, papallona by Pablo García, co-produced by Doble Banda and Eddie Saeta, and El concursante, directed by Rodrigo Cortés and co-produced by Filmax Entertainment, were the productions ultimately chosen by the directors of the Czech competition. Bolboreta will be competing in the festival's documentary section, and Cortés' film will be presented outside of the competition in the "Another View" section.
Doble Banda and Eddie Saeta's film reproduces the journey of a film director who is preparing his next project. With this intention he makes his way to a small town in Galicia, in search of characters, locations and values that he believes to be disappearing. The film spurs reflection on both the creative filmmaking process and love, in its oscillations between reality and fiction.
El concursante, which was highly acclaimed at the last celebration of the Malaga Film Festival, tells the story of the odd dichotomy of the millionaire prize winner of a television game show who ends up completely bankrupt, precisely thanks to his prize.
