CATALAN FILMS is the driving force behind the internationalisation of the Catalan audiovisual industry, establishing local, national and international connections and promoting the presence of Catalan productions and companies at markets and festivals.
Catalan Films aims to increase the participation of the Catalan audiovisual industry at international markets and to encourage the co-production and the distribution of Catalan projects. In addition, it also supports films and talent that have been selected to attend international festivals around the world and acts as the industry’s official representative at key festivals and markets.
In association with its different partners, Catalan Films works to promote Catalan fiction, documentaries, animation, television programmes and short films.
Mar Medir (Palamós, 1981) holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations (UAB, 2003), and another one in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (UB 2012). She also took the postgraduate courses in Line Producing, Executive Production and Project Development (this last one as a guest student) at ESCAC. Since 2005 she has worked in the executive production field, in companies like Oberon Cinematogràfica, El Kinògraf or Inicia Films. Mar has participated in projects such as Luisa is not at home, Celia Rico (Biennale di Venezia 2012); Elisa K, Judith Colell and Jordi Cadena (San Sebastián International Film Festival 2010); The Milk of Sorrow, Claudia Llosa (Golden Bear, Berlinale 2009); The Plague, NeusBallús (Berlinale 2013, Lux Awards 2013) and GodkaCirka, Àlex Lora (Sundance Film Festival, 2013). During three years she was the manager of Pro-Docs, thedocumentary producers’ association, and currently she works as the coordinator at Catalan Films.
Patricia holds a degree in Film & Media Studies from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, a European Master in Audiovisual Management taught by the Media Business School with the support of the European Union’s Media II Programme. She worked at LolaFilms, the production company behind films such as Belle Epoque; Torrente, the Dumb Arm of the Law; The Girl of your Dreams; Commonwealth; The 7th Day; Soldiers of Salamina, etc. During her time at LolaFilms, Patricia had the opportunity to work in different areas of the company: project development and pre-production, Spanish and English feature film postproduction or international sales monitoring. In 2010 she joined the team at Catalan Films, where she’s currently in charge of the festival department and the website.
Born in the Pyrenees (1990) Joan Ruiz holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and obtained a Post-graduate degree in Audiovisual Distribution and Marketing from the Open University of Catalonia. In 2013 he joined the team of the Department of Industry of the San Sebastian International Film Festival as coordinator and curator of the conferences and panels and as head of professional publications. In 2015 he began the professional conferences of D'A Film Festival Barcelona and is responsible for five editions. Communication coordinator of the Talking Galleries Barcelona 2017 symposium and collaborator of LOOP Fair. In 2018 he developed the communication project of the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola of Tabakalera film school. In 2019, he created La Pedrera - D’A Film Lab and began to work for the Business Development Service of the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies. In January 2020 he joined the Catalan Films team.
Catalan Films adopted a new corporate graphic image in 2005, which consists of a logo and a symbol. Together they represent the audiovisual world in a very dynamic way. Our visual identity is regulated by a Corporate Manual which must be followed compulsory in all the graphic image’s applications.
