synopsis

In the filmParallel Lives, a chronicle of the fifties, Henry Colomer relates the daily life of a working class family in northern Catalonia to prestigious figures that made up his heroic fantasies.

On the docks of Port-Vendres, where his grandfather was a docker, on cruise ships which ply his uncles, in factories where parents and neighbors are employed, all these are testimonies of an asserted solidarity of destinies.

The foil to this shared drive is constituted by the deaf presence of Franco throughout nearby Spain, and by a colonial war: on the ships to Algeria, tourists are increasingly rare, yet soldiers are more and more present.

Between fear and wonder, a child builds himself a little world, a collection of certain memories which he will find out, long after, he has shared with an entire generation.
